Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is ideal for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is particularly made for surfaces that are not even. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled equipment. These equipment offer an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
