The forklift is a material handling machine used to raise and transport loads from one location to another. Each component of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts can be utilized to transport the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lower and lift the load. There are different kinds of masts for lifting loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.

Cab

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights located at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
