History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was originally founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years.
